Naming it is the first honest thing this book will do — because a loop you can see has edges, and edges are where things start to end.

An illustrated portrait of Hannah, who writes the Anchored books

Hannah

Author, Anchored

I'm Hannah. I write the books at Anchored, and I started writing them because I could not find the one I wanted. Every evening journal I opened either counted my streak or asked me to feel differently by Friday — and at eleven at night, neither of those is an instruction anyone can follow.

So these are built the other way round: one verse in the King James, quoted word for word and never modernised. A page written for the hour it will actually be read — late, tired, with a pen that was already on the nightstand. One thing to write by hand, one small thing to do, and nothing that counts a streak or turns red when you miss three evenings.

I am not a therapist, and every book here says so on its own last page. What I have is a notebook that lived by my bed far longer than I would like to admit, and the handful of things in it that kept working. That is the whole credential, and I would rather write it plainly than dress it up.

What you receive

Here's where the evening gets stuck

  • The house goes quiet at ten, and the evening keeps talking.
  • The same thought waits for the lights to go off — it knows the schedule.
  • Prayer starts on a blank page, and comes out polite instead of true.
  • Tomorrow's conversation gets carried through a shift nobody scheduled.
  • Whatever was on your chest at eleven is still there at two.

Here's what a quieter evening looks like

  • One verse in the King James, short on purpose — the only sentence in the room.
  • A short reflection written for eleven at night, not for a study group.
  • One prompt, answered by hand. Messy is welcome.
  • One small thing to do before the lamp goes off — small enough to actually do.
  • The same closing line every evening: Tonight I am setting down ______.

Part One — the six chapters

Read before Night 1, or alongside it. They are short, and each one ends on a single page that holds the whole chapter — the diagram, the verses, and what the chapter refuses to promise.

  1. The Loop — the two wounds, and why naming one of them is where it breaks.
  2. What the Book Actually Says — a hymnbook full of weather, and the night watches it was written in.
  3. The Guilt Poison — the verse that got weaponised, and how to sort that mail.
  4. A Theology of Rest — the commandment nobody brags about keeping, and casting as a motion.
  5. Why Evenings, Why Paper, Why Ten Minutes — the method, argued rather than asserted.
  6. The Motion — everything, in four movements, and peace defined honestly.

every chapter closes on a page like this one

Part Two — one night, one page

Nothing to figure out at eleven at night: the verse at the top, a short reflection written to you, one thing to write, one small thing to do, and the same closing line every evening.

The verse first, printed large enough to read slowly

One verse in the King James Version opens every night — no cross-references, no study plan to fall behind on. 93 of them, chosen for the hour you will actually be reading.

The top of a night page: the week banner and the verse in the King James Version

the verse sits at the top — you read it before anything else

Then room to write, on every single night

Not a decorative line. Real ruled space, on all 93 nights, because the practice only works if the worry leaves your head and lands on paper. One prompt, one small thing to do, and a line to finish: Tonight I am setting down ______.

The bottom of a night page: the fill-in line and the ruled writing space

every night ends on the same line — that's the habit

A morning practice, lovely as it is, arrives twelve hours before your hardest moment.

An evening practice stands guard exactly where the wolves show up.

13 weeks, and a rhythm you can't fall behind on

Each week has a name and seven evenings. The seventh is a Sabbath page: one verse, no prompts, nothing to complete — just the week you already wrote. Miss three nights? Come back on the fourth. The tracker has room for that, and the book says so out loud.

The part nobody says out loud

You were told to try harder. That was the wrong instruction.

"If my faith were stronger, I wouldn't feel this."
Scripture's most faithful people were terrified — and God kept their words in the book on purpose.
"I should be able to pray this away."
Paul didn't say stop feeling it. He gave the feeling a forwarding address.
"Peace is a feeling I'm failing to have."
In Scripture, peace is closer to a motion you learn — the motion of setting something down.

The book says this in print, on its own pages: it does not promise a season without heavy evenings. It teaches one motion, and gives you 93 evenings to practise it.

An illustrated portrait of Hannah, who writes for Anchored

Who writes these

My name is Hannah. I write for Anchored, and everything here started as a notebook by my own bed — not a habit, and not a method. It was what was left when nothing else worked, on the evenings that kept going after the house had stopped.

So the books are built for that hour and no other: short pages, real room to write, one verse in the King James Version quoted word for word. Nothing to keep up with, and nothing that counts a streak.

— Hannah, Anchored

His peace is the kind that can share a room with an unsolved problem — which is the only kind that survives real life.

The questions you're actually asking

1. What do I actually receive?

A 212-page PDF, instantly, by email. Read it on a phone, a tablet, or print the pages you want to write on. No app, no account, no subscription, and nothing that quietly renews.

2. "What if I start and stop again, like every other journal I've bought?"

Then you'll be doing exactly what this book was built for. There is a page in it that says, in print: a journal you return to after a gap is not a broken promise — it is exactly what returning looks like. Nothing here counts your streak, and nothing turns red.

3. "Is this going to tell me the fear is a sin?"

No. The opposite, and it spends a whole chapter proving it from the text. Fear is a signal, not a verdict — and Scripture never once shames a frightened believer.

4. "I only have ten minutes. Is that enough?"

Ten minutes is the design, not the compromise. One verse, one paragraph, one thing to write. A night done badly at 11 p.m. in the dark still counts.

5. Which translation, and how carefully?

The King James Version, quoted word for word. Every verse in the book is compared against a public-domain King James source character by character when the book is built — capitals and commas included. Three of the verses are excerpts rather than whole verses; where that is the case, the book is exact, not complete.

6. Do I have to start on a Monday, or at night?

No. The weeks are named, not dated, and nothing in the file knows what day it is. Start on the evening you happen to open it.

7. Can I use it with my small group?

Yes — it works evening by evening, which makes it easy to walk through one week at a time. You may print pages for your own group's use. Write to us and we'll help you plan it.

8. Is this therapy?

It is not, and it says so on its own last page. If worry is taking your sleep, your appetite or your ordinary days, please talk to a doctor or a counsellor. That is not a Plan B — sometimes it is the most faithful step you take all year.

One evening from here

Tonight can end a little quieter.
